Background
I have been fascinated by the sport of boxing since I was a child, sneakily staying up past my bed time to watch late-night fights on the tv.
It was the combination of speed, balance, stamina and strength that these athletes possessed that grabbed my attention.
Seeing mere mortals dodge lightning-fast punches was akin to watching Neo dodge bullets in The Matrix.
I got the opportunity to start boxing training for myself around 15 years ago and never looked back.
I am now passionate about passing my boxing knowledge on to others to build their fitness and confidence, as well as providing a fun,
safe and encouranging environment in which they can learn...
Upon arrival in Canada for my post-doctoral position at the University of Waterloo,
I discovered that boxing training was not being offered through the university's facilities.
This simply wouldn't do, so I decided that if there was no one to coach me then I would do the coaching.
After gaining my NCCP level 1 boxing coach qualification and initiating discussions with the relevant people in the
Athletics and Recreation department, the first "Learn to Box" classes were born.
These classes have been going strong ever since, evolving into separate beginner and intermediate levels through which
I have had the privilege to give hundreds of people their introduction to the sport of boxing.
My aim is for all of my students to enjoy learning to box regardless of ability,
and I enjoy seeing my boxers growing in confidence and skill.
